In May 2017, Bord na Móna received planning permission for its proposed Cloncreen Wind Farm. Planning was granted for 21 turbines with a overall blade tip height of 170 metres.
Bord na Móna lands extend to approximately 80,000 hectares in total and are located mainly in the Irish Midlands. In 2011, our ‘Strategic Framework for the Future Use of Peatlands’ considered how we could use our land resources for a sustainable future. We recognise that cutaway peatlands have significant potential for the development of wind energy.
We will develop the wind farm on Cloncreen bog located in Co. Offaly.
Bord na Móna has conducted a detailed site selection exercise to identify the optimal site for the development of a large-scale wind energy project.
We are committed to keeping the local community informed about the project with regular updates, information about public events and newsletters.
